Southern Shores

Southern Shores is a diverse town nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Currituck Sound and running south of Duck to north of Highway 158. This gives the town some great ocean side homes and beaches as well as beautiful wooded areas to the west. On the west side, you will find private neighborhoods including ponds and self contained canals as well as a canal system that feeds through the Ginguite Bay and to the Currituck Sound.

It is also home to Duck Woods Country Club that provides golf, swimming pool and tennis facilities for its members and guests.

The area was conceived by Frank Stick in 1947 and originally managed by the Kitty Hawk Landing Company.  The Town of Southern Shores was incorporated in 1979.

The Southern Shores Civic Association provides recreational facilities and maintains "green space".  This includes:

  • 34 Dune Crossovers (along the 4 mile ocean front)

  • Soundside wading beach and park

  • Sea Oats park

  • Tennis courts

  • 3 marinas

  • Several walk/bike trails
